Our Lapsang is produced in Tong Mu - the birthplace for producing red tea. Tong Mu is in a nature preserve located in Wu Yi Mountains that covered in thick pine forests and are shrouded in a heavy mist which helps provide the ideal environment for growing top quality tea.

Lapsang Souchong - Tong Mu is a unique type of tea because the leaves are traditionally crafted with the same traditional techniques used hundreds of years ago.  The unique strong smoky flavour arises from smoke drying over pine wood fire, taking on a distinctive smoky flavour, after being plucked, withering and rolled.  It is known throughout the world for its distinctive smoky flavour, delicate leaves and enchanting liquor.

The tea originated through a creative response to a threat to the tea crop one year, in which the villagers of Tong Mu quickly dried their crop over freshly cut pinewood. Unexpectedly, European customers enjoyed the smoky flavour and the new type of tea became popular.

A delicate, fragrant tea, Lapsang Souchong is a subtler brew than the more assertive smoky flavour of standard Lapsangs.

How to brew

  • Use freshly drawn cold water

  • Boil water & allow to cool for 4 to 5 minutes to about 80℃

  • Use 3g tea leaves in a 350ml cup

  • Steep for 1 to 2 minutes (or to your taste)

  • Infusions: at least 3 times – don't remove the leaves from the mug, as once the water level is low, simply add more water and keep going until the flavour of the tea is gone
