Celadon is a beautiful glaze invented in ancient times in Zhejiang Province, China. Celadon glaze refers to a family of transparent glazes, many with pronounced and sometimes accentuated cracks in the glaze produced in a wide variety of colours and is generally used on porcelain or stoneware clay bodies.
When used with teas such as Puer tea or other dark coloured teas, you will find that after prolonged use the colour of the tea you are brewing or drinking in the vessel starts to seep through to the other side of the tea ware. This is a very desirable look and very much adds to the characteristic of your tea ware.
The very beautiful pale green to deep intense green colours of our Celadon teaware is produced by iron oxide and chemical changes in the iron oxide caused by depriving it of free oxygen. Celadon ware is normally fired in a kiln at 1400° F (750° C), left to harden, removed, coated with the glaze and then goes back into the kiln for a second firing at 2400° F (1300° C).
